Singers Sign For The 'Sex' Soundtrack

With the original theme song of Sex and the City still able to make a woman’s head snap to attention within the first bar, it’s no wonder the soundtrack of the upcoming film has been made a priority.

As expected, new movie cast member, Jennifer Hudson, who will play Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant, Louise, will have a singing role to go with her acting one. According to writer/director Michael Patrick King, Hudson will be belting out her track ‘All Dressed Up in Love’ as the end credits roll.

But the real musical coup is Fergie, who has recorded the movie’s opener – a brand spanking song called ‘Labels & Love’ which incorporates the original melody “It’s an entirely new song with lyrics, but it has the Sex and the City theme as the DNA – on steroids,” King said.

With the series renowned for its funky tunes, an often eclectic mix of genres and beats new and old, there will be much to live up to – and hopefully the soundtrack, at least, won’t disappoint.

All The Newest News And 'Sex' Spoilers

There's plenty suddenly floating around so I will give them to you in point form. Some are small and unconfirmed; some are huge and straight from the horse’s mouth. (No, I am not having a go at SJP!) So, without further ado:

* Carrie throws her pink Swarovski crystal phone off a cliff in Mexico after getting a message from Big aka John James Preston saying they need to talk urgently.
* The four stars wear real jewels every day estimated at US$2.5 million.
* Filming locations are many and varied, with up to forty-five different sites including some well outside NY, and some that are usually off-limits: Vogue, the New York Mayor’s Office, the New York Public Library, the Lenox Hill Hospital.
* The film will feature a complete replica of the New York Fashion Week tent.
* There will be famous cameos aplenty.

* Carrie laments her broken relationship, and tells Samantha she’s “revamping her life, right down to her cellphone area code”.
* At one point the girls sit drinking Cosmopolitans, apparently for the first time in a long time, and Miranda wonders aloud why they ever stopped drinking them. Carrie tells her they had to after everyone else started drinking them.
* Samantha becomes obsessed with her LA beach-house neighbour, Dante, despite having a wonderful, successful, kindhearted boyfriend like Smith. She tells Carrie Dante reminds her of her previous self.

* Miranda has to break the news of her separation from Steve to Steve’s mother, Mary, who then asks who Steve is. Carrie comments in voice-over (evidently this element of the series is still present) that Miranda sees this as the positive side of Alzheimer’s disease.
* Until she is jilted at the altar, Carrie initially has a fairy-tale outlook toward her commitment to Big. Afterwards, she becomes more cynical than ever.

* Sarah Jessica Parker has recently commented of the movie that it will be much darker, and much more grown-up than the series, and that Carrie will have to overcome a tragedy. “There’s a loss that happens that’s pretty tough… something significant happens to Carrie and it really forces her to ask questions that you have to ask about yourself,” Parker said.
* Cynthia Nixon let the cat (half-way) out of the bag this week, confirming months old rumours that someone will die in the movie.

This all sounds pretty nuts to me.

'Sex' Stars Become Revealing As Premiere Approaches

More details from the personal lives of the stars of Sex and the City are coming to light as the countdown to the big screen release draws near. First, Kristin Davis’ sex tape from her hellion days emerges; now Cynthia Nixon announces that she was diagnosed with breast cancer… several years ago. And to top it all off, Evan Handler is now speaking out about his own experience with cancer as a young man. The timing of these scandals and announcements seems somewhat suspect.

Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes in the series and the upcoming flick Sex and the City: The Movie, has this week revealed on Good Morning America that after a routine mammogram in 2006, a cancerous mass was found in her breast. The lump was removed, and Nixon underwent six-and-a-half weeks of radiation therapy, before making a complete recovery. “I didn’t want to make it public while I was going through it”, the actress explained. Fair enough – but announcing it while on the publicity trail comes across as more than a little shrewd, especially as fellow cast member, Handler, who plays Charlotte’s husband, Harry, also went public this week with details of his battle with acute myeloid leukaemia in his mid-twenties.

Handler was diagnosed with the almost-always fatal disease at 24, and was given only a few years to live. He lost his hair for good, but not his will to survive, and at 47, Handler shows no signs of stopping. He is releasing his second memoir It’s Only Temporary: The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive on May 1st, a book Handler says chronicles his experiences in a way not dissimilar from Sex and the City, only “lived and told by a man”. Funny that.

'Little Britain' Film A Big Rumour?

Word is that David Walliams and Matt Lucas will have Little Britain USA up and filming within the week – but what of the once planned Little Britain movie? Since 2006, there has been talk of film interest from the US, with the possibility of a TV series thrown in for good measure, but while it seems the American version of the show has come to fruition, the feature length production has not.

Two Hours And Fifteen Minutes of 'Sex'

Diarise it, ladies. Sex and the City: The Movie is shaping up to be a two hour plus mega-session – how else will they fit all the rumoured crises in? And it looks like it’s coming Down Under (ahem) on June 5th. Yep, according to Hoyts, we Aussies are going to be out of the Sex loop for about a week, unless we all fly to Cannes or New York, the two places tipped for the world premiere. I foresee a lot of pirating on the sly PCs.

Bitch Fights And Rumours - The Real Drama Of The 'Sex' Movie

They may have finished filming, but it seems the acting is just beginning, with the Sex and the City girls throwing themselves into full publicity mode – despite persistent rumours of catty quarrels.
