Someone Already Had 'Sex' - And It Wasn't PG Rated
May 11th 2008 05:24
The first reviews have hit, and even if you discount Oprah’s opinion right off the bat, things are sounding promising – in a non-specific kind of way.
The Fox News review by Roger Friedman promises all will be swell, but offers no insight into why. The only thing that stood out to me was this: “Don’t we worried by all the upscale affluence and opulence. King very smartly has anticipated the current economic mood in this country. There’s a subtle surprise in the third act that addresses it.”
Really? Even with the show and its stars renowned for being purveyors of up-to-the-minute couture trends? Even with Sarah Jessica Parker having eighty-one wardrobe changes throughout the film, and wearing her share of the US$2.5 million of jewellery used on set? My interest is piqued as to what this surprise could be…
Some definite good news though, is that the movie has been given an American R Rating, defying jaded expectations that the story would be watered down to suit New Line and thereby gain millions more at the box office with clamouring teenage girls. This is one sign at least, that Hollywood involvement won’t mean a complete rehash of what Sex and the City stands for. And that’s not all: Michael Patrick King is almost denying that Big will die. His death was a rumour that, ah, sprang to life early in production, and rose its ugly head again due to recent remarks by Cynthia Nixon.
But maybe Big did die and the scene was cut? Apparently whole characters and plot lines have been discarded from the film, leaving the movie quite different from the story originally penned by King, which is being released as a book. So don’t worry if you don’t like the flick – maybe the SATC novel will give you the fix you crave! Hope abounds.

Oprah has an opinion on everthing doesn't she? She's very annoying...

Bet she wishes she'd had a different opinion about Slimist and the James Frey book!
Thanks Trace,

I won't see it in the theater, but I'll probably rent it later.
I trust you'll let me know how it is and tell me all the spoilers, though. Right?!

Saw some spoiler clips this week - which I have been meaning to write about - that are making me think I should organise a wake instead of a girls' night out. Death of my love of Sex and the City. Not looking good. May have to be drunk before watching it. Am very sad.
But am STILL desperate to see it. Can't help it. So jealous of entire city of London.

I completely agree, it does seem fake and I think that’s why I might have difficulty bonding with it. Every time I see an excerpt I hope I've overreacted, but nope, it does seem to be true...
Ash, interesting message!! Hope you're having fun on your travels
