'Sex' Movie: Full Length Trailer, Big's Full Name, Full Of Spoilers - Full Of Sh*t
February 25th 2008 09:33
Well, in the space of a day, the full-length trailer for Sex and the City: The Movie was leaked and then yanked. Let me tell you, I had some trouble trying to find a clip that was still in operation, and now that I have… I am intensely disappointed. I cannot even articulate how utterly appalled I am.
I could have wept. Ok, I did. I was so excited, expecting so much more after the thrill of the teaser. And now my dreams are all but smashed. Of course, there are a few small threads I cling to – the strength of the series encourages me to show some faith, and there are tiny hints that all may not be as it seems – but on the whole, this is a sad, sad day to be me.
Here is the trailer:
Sex and the City: The Movie - Full Length Trailer
And here are a couple of brief notes about what is revealed, in case this clip is pulled too:
* Big’s real name is John James Preston.
* Steve appears to have cheated on Miranda.
* Charlotte has her adopted daughter, and is pregnant.
* Carrie moves in with Big and asks for a bigger closet instead of a ring.
* Big leaves Carrie ‘at the altar’.
* Samantha wants fresh meat.
* Jennifer Hudson’s character has moved to NYC “to find love”.
* Carrie appears to dye her hair dark after her break-up with Big.
* Chris Noth seems to have had serious airbrushing, along with the ladies.
What do you reckon?

Ridiculous puns with no wit.
Half the storyline given away.
Stale and strained.
No humour.
No inventiveness.
No damn schamazzle.

It seems tired, cheesy, there's nothing captivating about it.
Also, the trailer practically tells the whole story. The only thing I'm wondering about how Carrie is married (the beach scene) when Big stood her up.
There seem to be so many dramatic storylines that it has to be unrealistic and impossible to cover them all in a film. Unless the film is three hours long.
I'm so disappointed that Steve cheated...and it's cheesy that Charlotte and whatshisname adopt and then she falls pregnant. How idyllic. My cynicism is unleashed...
I'm still going to see it though

Yeah, there are a few bits that don't seem to add up, particularly a few flashes at the end - wondering if this means there is more to it. But how can there be MORE? If Steve really has cheated I will be devastated, but maybe that will be the only gritty, unexpected (until they put it in the trailer) thing about it all.
Charlotte being preggers is complete crap. It doesn't magically happen like in a fantasy in real life. Isn't Carrie herself saying that at the end. OH GOSH! Maybe that's a message? *Sigh*
What can we do? We'll still be first in line as expected, and we won't know anything for absolute sure until then I suppose.
Thanks for your thoughts Trace - I needed them!

PS Yes, Big looks like unnaturally smooth...

Sex is now nothing more than a disappointment for you - but fear not! I feel sure that somehow your faith in Sex will be restored again.........time heals all, isn't that what they say?

Well, I’ve slept on it, am now having my second cuppa and my thoughts are the same. The trailer gives too much away, the tacky background music detracts from the events, giving it a fake Hollywood feeling and it obviously covers a lot of time as one minute Charlotte is announcing her miracle baby and the next she’s sporting a big belly.
Hmm, it’s not good.
Plus, what is that Cinderella crap at the end? They never talked like that in the series, so why have they started now? I think it’s been Hollywoodised...and that isn’t good.
Thank goodness for your blog, Mich. We can let some of our angst and disappointment out.

Indeed you must, because it's hardly contained, let me tell you!
I am so upset I cannot even bear to see the movie now. (I hope you realise the last nine words of that statement are a complete fabrication - I'm just demonstrating my distress.)
Time heals - I'll give them until 30th of May to fix this to my satisfaction, or Mr King is going to get some wounds that an eternity will not mend!
Thanks Jo, and thanks for the hugs, sorely needed.

Ah I see. I think Chris Noth was looking a bit worse for wear after the last couple of years and they tried to fix him up a bit - and failed.
The film is supposed to cover twelve months (all four seasons, remember we never had winter in the series until the final lot of eps?) But that is still a hell of a lot to have going on in a year. It has really confused me.
The Cinderella bit - total BS. If they start getting all gooey it's going to be terrible. They are supposed to be sharp! I really think this is the New Line influence. Hollywoodised for sure.
One thing I am clinging to though, is that they way they are acting in the trailer is reminiscent of the fake endings filmed for the show - you know, not at all fast paced, pretty mushy, no zing. So am hoping most of these snippets are hoaxes too. In those endings, it felt like they knew they wouldn't be used, and were almost parodying themselves. This feels the same - I just hope it's not 'serious' parody this time.
But I fear the worst.

I'll definitely give it a chance when it's in the cinemas... I'm sure it will have many things going for it.

Well...the only thing I can say is that nowadays the trailers are made to look much better than the film so I'm (as you say) hoping that 'Sex...' bucks the trend!
(seriously...how many times has the trailer made the film so enticing and then you watch the film and you're left with...is that all there is??)
Perhaps Big has been airbrushed because in the trailers for 'Law and Order: Anarchy...or whatever'
Brunette hair makes SJP look softer...and okay so I'm odd but I do like Pat Field's style...except on her!
Tracy is right about the whole "far too many dramatic storylines" but...
...we shall keep the faith Ladies.
I have a feeling though...that although this film will shoot straight to #1 and rake it in...it will disappoint.
Please let me be wrong.
Hope you're well Michaelie...

Hahaha. Sound advice, I'm sure (I hope). Of course, I shall still walk into that cinema with an open heart - I just hope I don't emerge with a broken one!
Thanks for the pep talk.

Bloody hell. If this trailer is better than the movie, we are in for a lot of tears! I mean it! I shall be sobbing all over this blog!
SJP insisted they spend millions airbrushing all the women - their hands and necks and faces and feet - so I guess they did Big while they were at it!
I reckon dark hair on SJP makes her head look smaller. Lol. I think she was best when she had the designer regrowth with all the highlights and downlights mingled together.
Pat Field - oh god, I hate to say it, but what she does really damn well works on that show. She did an amazing job of setting them apart, and was really at the forefront of making fashion an added dimension. But you are so right - she should not style herself! Did you see the pics of her with the devil horns?? Blimey.
Of course, it will be a gigantic hit. There are millions of women champing at the bit to see it, and like all of us, they will see it despite doubts, at the very first opportunity. And then, when/if it turns out to be total crap, and smashes all our dreams, there will be riots the world over. I will personally lead the rebellion. Who's with me?!
Thanks
Mich

And Miranda's hair. Awful. She finished the show with such hot locks, and now... flat orange bob. Not. Good.
I'm hoping against hope that this is all a trick, as I said to Trace. I didn't feel real, and Michael Patrick is known for his hoaxes... or am I just in denial?
Oh please don't disappoint me, Sex and the City!!!!!
Gawd.

GOOD IDEA! I'm definitely going to see the movie anyway (how could I not?) but after this, am in a constant state of anxiety. Would rather have skipped all that and just taken the movie as it came (May 30th). But I can't do that. I can't help peeking!
Am regaining my hope though, slowly but surely.
Thanks!

This is what I wrote on tvwatchers.net to save me writing my saga of an opinion again:
Also thought second episode was an improvement but am a long way from being a convert with any conviction.
The fashion madam is Patricia Field a la SATC. Am digging the costumes. Pat has actually toned down a little bit while still being quirky and interesting.
The clothes and Bonnie are the best things so far. But you're right about Miranda - she seems to have been modelled on redhead icequeen reminiscent of DHW's Bree.
In fact, too many things are reminiscent of others. It's lacking a freshness, and instead seems a combination of pop culture storylines. It's less than convincing so far, but I suppose I'll give it a few more episodes!

But I'll check out Lipstick Jungle too. Though don't have much faith anymore Lara! What say you?
