Bitch Fights And Rumours - The Real Drama Of The 'Sex' Movie
April 7th 2008 18:03
They may have finished filming, but it seems the acting is just beginning, with the Sex and the City girls throwing themselves into full publicity mode – despite persistent rumours of catty quarrels.
Starting with jealousy over designers’ eagerness to dress Sarah Jessica Parker – one fashion house is reportedly offering SJP $4 million in clothing, while another is willing to dress her son for life – the conflict between the four women has escalated to the point where they are refusing to arrive at the NY premiere together. Instead, they may be arriving at staggered intervals, to ensure Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall don’t miss out on any off the fuss.
What’s more, publicity shots for the film became a source of contention, when Cattrall allegedly baulked at SJP’s proposal to pose front-on while the other women stood angled toward her. After much to-do, SJP apparently conceded, and the result is the highly underwhelming photo below.
Officially, everything is just peachy, but it seems quite clear that all is not sweetness and light, with tensions rising between the Sex-ettes every step of the way. At this rate, it will be a miracle if the proposed sequels happen at all, and even less likely – another Sex series, the advent of which is the latest rumour doing the rounds.

Writers In Writing (and other writing)
These rumours have been swirling for quite a while around the original series (as I'm sure you know)and I think there must be truth there - particularly in regard to Parker and Cattrall.
I haven't seen the film (of course) but I can't help thinking what good actors these guys must be. Watching any episode of the series you would never know they hated each other.
Wonder if it will come across on film.

They are so well matched in that one show, and portray their characters with such perfection, that it is almost inconceivable to see how they regard each other in real life. A bit sad, too.
And Cattrall and SJP especially seem so devoid of personality otherwise! I know there was always a rift between those two, but now it seems the others are getting jealous as well. It appears the movie will be more focused on Carrie, rather than the ladies as a foursome, which seems to have ruffled feathers!
I hope they cover any animosity up in the movie better than they have during the filming and publicity campaign so far!
Thanks Jayne!

Honestly, she seems like a humourless bitch to me. And I can just imagine her pulling rank on the others as an executive producer. But yes, I can understand why everyone wants to dress 'Carrie' - and why the others are jealous. Four million bucks worth of glorious stuff...!

I agree Cynthia Nixon (and her character) keeps it real

Carrie is about the only thing I like about SJP, and yep, even the character can be too much! I can just see her passively-aggressively holding her exec status over the others.
Nixon is very suited to Miranda, I think. I like them both a lot, and I definitely think Nixon is the most down to earth and the best actress of the four.
