Cattrall Makes 'Sex' Proposal: Carrie Out, Miranda Outed
August 11th 2008 17:03
In the rocking wake of the Sex and the City movie, it seems Kim Cattrall has been devising a strategy for how the projected sequel can work to her best advantage, pitching a concept to producers in which Cattrall’s character of Samantha steps into the principal role.
A bold move by the ambitious Cattrall, but not one likely to bear fruit, considering the power wielded by current lead actress, executive producer, and arch-nemesis of Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker.
SJP has reportedly threatened to walk away from any such doings, taking her producer credit and considerable backing in the fashion world with her, along with co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis to boot.
Maybe Cattrall is doing her a favour, and SJP should stay away from the Sex flicks – after all, husband Matthew Broderick allegedly had an affair with a twenty-five year old youth worker during filming of the last one – but while SJP is said to be dragging her heels with the film, it isn’t for that reason. Apparently she doesn’t want to rush into things and wind up disappointing loyal fans. Well, SJP, that horse has bolted.
Other rumours surrounding the sequel’s plot suggest that Cynthia Nixon’s character, Miranda, will realize she is a lesbian, unimaginatively echoing Nixon’s real life.

Interesting stuff...
Hmm, it's not sounding good for the sequel, but of course the first film wasn't that great anyway...
I don't fancy Cattrall's chances, SJP is a business woman, I can't see her letting go...

Interesting twist on Nixon's character! I used to wonder if she swung both ways...

Yeah, I don't think Cattrall stands much of a chance, maybe if she'd still been in LA and they'd done a separate spin-off... But no, SJP got her way with the first one, I think she'll squash this too.
Thank you for stopping by, Trace!

Nope, as annoying as she can be at times, Carrie is rather crucial to the SATC thing!
It will be weird if they really try to swing that with Miranda's character - it will mean retracing a lot of footsteps. I mean, she decides with 'Sid' that she's not a lesbian, falls in love with Steve, breaks up with Steve, has a baby with Steve, marries Steve, breaks up with Steve, reunites with Steve... then leaves Steve for a woman?
Hmmm...
Well, we'll see! Thanks Lara.

Having found the first movie so disappointing, I wish they'd stopped with the series! But as long as the money rolls in they'll just keep 'em coming, I guess. The plot could revolve around the merits of a battered sav and still 'pull the chicks' solely due to the power of that SATC 'label'.
I think Cattrall's trying to bite off more than she can chew. Actually that reminds me of one of her storylines in the series...
