'Sex' No One Night Stand
July 13th 2008 17:33
HBO has unofficially confirmed that Sex and the City: The Movie will not be a mere fling. Instead, it will devolve into a sordid affair that will no doubt drag on long after the love has died, propelled by foolishly fickle flickers of lust and the hunt for another mind-blowing explosion of ka-ching.
Said HBO’s Michael Lombardo this week: “There is enormous interest by Warner Brothers Newline to do another Sex and the City, and I think, in fact, they’re trying with our help to put that together now.”
It was always fated to happen. The flick has made well over $300 million so far – Hollywood can’t help but tap that again.

I hadn't realised it was definite...oh dear.

That's great news though. I think I really miss seeing them and hearing about their misadventures in love/life -- hence was soooooo excited when the movie came out.
I think I'd rather another season than another movie, but I'll take whatever they fling out

At this rate - we'll start to wonder why Stallone stopped at doing only 6 Rocky movies?
Hollywood will bleed everything dry given the chance - good luck to the producers and moguls when it comes to negoitating a pay deal with the cast - it'll cost . . .

Why not just bring the bloody series back. I know, I know, the movie would make more money.
But does the story line really warrant a sequel? Hmmmm.....

So the HBO execs are whispering. Have no idea when it will be out - as soon as they can mash together something to justify another one I guess. I'm thinking that will happen ASAP, unless Kim Cattrall stalls things again.
Thanks Trace!

I miss them, enormously, but I don't feel like the movie delivered a genuine fix. More like a placebo...
Maybe the snappy eps were the ultimate format? I don't know that anything from here on in could manage to surpass the series.
But I guess we'll see! I know I won't be able to help trying to prove myself wrong.

Sounds like something only a devotee could sit through. Or on.

Got it in one, my friend. It makes me feel quite sad really. I'm almost hoping one of the stars will refuse to participate simply because they don't want to wreck it - but I think the only reason they would do that is to bluff for a bigger paycheck.
I said almost, mind. Quite safely - I'm pretty sure all the stars' contracts included commitment to sequels.
Thanks G.

I don't think the storyline warranted the first flick. I'm sure MPK will come up with some more unmotivated conflict though, enough to keep them rolling in the millions.
SJP has reportedly said she will never make a series again. Ungrateful wench.

Oh, you're one of those people. Haha.
While I do agree with you, a deep-rooted seed of adulation and loyalty to what SATC once was urges me to
hunt you down and injure you severelyshun you without mercy
present my opposing views in an adult manner.
However, since I can't be shagged doing that, I will share with you a link to a post Morgan put up of Christina Aguilira satirising the show.

If they make another movie good on them - there must be something the series people love about it if it made over $300 million at the box office.

The series really was the best thing out. Deadwood on the other hand...
You really think the big bucks in the box office means anything? I can think of quite a few movies that would prove otherwise...
Everyone who loved the series had to see it - if they come out thinking it was total trash, they've still handed over the cash. It will be the same with the sequel, even those who were disappointed the first time round will show up to see if they can rekindle the love.
It does suck about Deadwood. I have come to love Timothy Olyphant.
Thanks Wayne.

I was expecting it to be Hollywoodised, and I had heard a lot that didn't sound good about the storyline, so I prepared myself so that I wasn't too disappointed. I wouldn't feel any resentment if the standard wasn't so high before, but it was nowhere near as good as the series it was based on.
I wrote two reviews on it, which you are not obliged to read, but I have laid out exactly what I think and why in them, especially the first:
The Seduction of 'Sex': Spoiler-Free Review
Sex and the City: Full Frontal Movie Review
Basically, it wasn't wonderful and it didn't live up to the series, but it wouldn't quite deserve to be featured on Bucket Movies either!
