Singers Sign For The 'Sex' Soundtrack

April 22nd 2008 17:33
With the original theme song of Sex and the City still able to make a woman’s head snap to attention within the first bar, it’s no wonder the soundtrack of the upcoming film has been made a priority.

As expected, new movie cast member, Jennifer Hudson, who will play Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant, Louise, will have a singing role to go with her acting one. According to writer/director Michael Patrick King, Hudson will be belting out her track ‘All Dressed Up in Love’ as the end credits roll.

But the real musical coup is Fergie, who has recorded the movie’s opener – a brand spanking song called ‘Labels & Love’ which incorporates the original melody “It’s an entirely new song with lyrics, but it has the Sex and the City theme as the DNA – on steroids,” King said.

With the series renowned for its funky tunes, an often eclectic mix of genres and beats new and old, there will be much to live up to – and hopefully the soundtrack, at least, won’t disappoint.

Works for me Michaelie, I didn't even know Fergie sang . . . typical guy I guess.

Yeah Louie, sounds good to me - I'm glad they're incorporating the original theme.

Hi Mich

Oh I agree: With the original theme song of Sex and the City still able to make a woman’s head snap to attention within the first bar.

Interesting

Update: Just downloaded Fergie's 'Labels and Love'. First impression... not into it. I hope it grows on me. You can hear the original theme but it sounds out of place, really jerky. Don't know about the lyrics either. I would put it on here but have no idea how to do such things!

Aha, I must say I'm not keen on the sound of it.

I went to the cinema last night and they played the trailer, very exciting!!

Trace, I was disappointed. But I know I'm all talk - the moment I step into the cinema, I'll be back to my most devoted self. I will be overwhelmed with excitement and it will take me a while to objectively think about and decide what I think - I was exactly the same with the finale!

What did you see last night, and will a review be forthcoming?

I saw some fluff, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Not my usual sort of film to see at the cinema, but it was nice to see something light. It was better than I thought with a few great quirky lines. I'm not sure if I'll do a review...it will mean publically announcing I saw it...plus could life get any more hectic at the moment?! Phew!!

Hope you're having a good weekend,

Tracy

I heard it's not too bad, have seen some alright reviews for it as an entertaining flick.

I'm hearing you re: hectic lives. All I want to do is sleep!

Had a great night out tonight - too bad I've got to work tomorrow!

Trace,

As you can probably tell from my delay in replying - I haven't had a chance yet! I'm only working from home tomorrow though, so I will be catching up on sleep/bad TV then!

I'm guessing it's all about girl power on the soundrack?

Hey Aimz,

I've only heard Fergie's track and don't really like it. It just says "Shopping for labels, shopping for love" a lot, with the original theme to a slow techno sort of beat... I watched the first couple of eps of the series again today, and it just seems that the movie has moved so far off track from when the series started - definitely Hollywood orientated now.

Great to see you

I bet the soundtrack will be great.

But the most surprising thing about this post is Fergie. I can't believe you found a pic of her where she DOESN'T look like a transvestite!

Hahaha Kylie!

Actually, I still think she looks a bit funny in that pic, like her face is made of plasticine!

Hi Michaelie,
any news on how or if there will be any kind of premiere event in Melbourne?? Please don't say there won't be any!!

Once I hear something definite, I will let you know, Anon. Word is there are several little premiere parties happening about the city - cosmos and cinema with goody bags, you know the drill.

Truth is, I'm still trying to find a way of seeing it before June 5th - without flying to London, that is!
