Sex and the City: A Short Note on the Extended Cut

November 13th 2008 04:29
I bought Sex and the City: The Movie – Extended Cut on the day of its Australian release with the faint wan hope that my initial cinema-based impression was off the mark. If anything, I have come closer to detesting the flick with each subsequent viewing.

There are six extra minutes in the extended cut, and they serve no real purpose. Some of the deleted scenes which are not included in the cut have slightly more in the way of entertainment value, but still not to the standard of the series.

The special features include an overview of the fashion featured in the film, the making of the soundtrack, and ‘A Conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King’ – a tedious affair in which the triple-named pair very earnestly kiss each others’ arses.

And just where have you been?
I see you too are one of the True Believers.

The extended cut? Jeepers, I thought the whole problem was that it was too long to begin with.

Norm,

You truly wouldn't believe me if I told you.

In the way of Ghandi or Hitler? Or not at all.

I missed you.

Not the whole problem, Ruby, but one of. An extension didn't help - they should have just started again from scratch.

I watch episodes like The Post-it Always Sticks Twice, The Drought, My MotherBoard Myself, and Coulda Woulda Shoulda, and wonder how it got to this...

Thanks for the comment!

Considering that you were the most excited for this movie, and the most disappointed, I don't think there's any chance of me liking this...

Morgan,

My life...endless series of disapointments...

Not really.

I think I am having trouble being objective. I wonder if maybe the movie is alright after all, if not compared to the series, but then dismiss the notion completely.

Nope, it's still not good.

Trace,

Yes, they are so very fake. I actually felt uncomfortable watching this one.

"....but you, you were brilliant, that was such an important idea..."

"...you were so brave in that scene, it was so raw, anyone could connect with that..."

Spare me!

Thanks Trace.

CIbb,

Neither do I. They've all sold themselves out.

At best, it's a very average romantic comedy. At worst, it's sacrilege!

Thank you for stopping by,

OK, OK . . .

You finally managed to convince me.

I actually sat down with Mrs Nice Guy and watched the movie last weekend - guess that means I need to get the extended disco mix directors cut now huh?

Stay well

Interesting as that sounds, MNG, I wouldn't worry too much!

I do wonder if they will bring out any other cuts though. There's Blu-ray edition, but nothing more really to it.

Hope Mrs NG didn't mind it!

Thanks

'The Conversation...' sounds like an ordeal! I too have little patience with those type of dialogues... Annoying...

Evidently not a very successful mode of propaganda.

Life's grand, Lara - it's really good to see you too!
