NY Mayor To Star In 'Sex' Scene

The Honourable Michael Bloomberg, billionaire mayor of New York, is to appear in the upcoming movie version of Sex and the City. Bloomberg, who was listed by Forbes this year as being worth $11.5 billion, apparently agreed to the non-speaking cameo role after SATC producers requested his participation. The scene will be shot in Bryant Park, Manhattan.
Sex and the City had plenty of famous people appearing in cameos over the years – (as themselves: Donald Trump, Heidi Klum, Ed Koch, Heather Graham, Isaac Mizrahi, Lucy Lui, Hugh Hefner, Kevyn Aucoin, Matthew McConaughey, Carrie Fisher) – but the slant of this one makes me wonder about the purpose of the Mayor’s involvement.
In the course of the series, the former Mayor of NY, Rudy Giuliani, was referred to several times – and not altogether complimentarily. But maybe Goldberg’s politics are seen as more agreeable, and in keeping with the SATC tone. As a social liberal, Goldberg supports pro-choice and gay marriage. He is also generally well liked, and is ranked 7th in the US for his extensive charitable deeds.
In light of all this, it’s not so unlikely that he would be asked to appear in the movie without a particular necessity for it in the storyline. But maybe, just maybe, someone is going to get political! Mr Big for President, perhaps?
