What's Next For Sex?

August 24th 2007 04:27
Forget the Sphinx, Jack the Ripper, and the question of why two socks go into the wash and only one comes out: all I want to know is… what’s the plot of the Sex and the City movie? This closely guarded secret is a mystery many a gal wants solved, but if Michael Patrick King has anything to say about it – and he’s not saying a word – we won’t have any leads for a while yet.

So, what can one do but speculate? Here’s what we do know: the script was written by SATC director, King, based on the characters originally created by Candice Bushnell in her semi-autobiographical column, later made into a novel, and then adapted into the series. The film is being produced by HBO in conjunction with New Line Cinema, and is currently in preproduction. It’s set to start shooting in September with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis and – finally, after some reported resistance – Kim Cattrall confirmed as returning principal cast members. Chris Noth’s reprisal of the supporting role of Mr Big was verified just recently, while rumours are circulating that Parker’s real-life husband, Matthew Broderick, will join the cast as a gay fashion designer.

Basically, we know nothing. Nothing that really matters anyway, like how much of the story will be devoted to shoes. Plus, there are all the obvious questions that arise: Will Carrie and Big stay together? (I hope so.) Will they get married? (I hope not.) Will Charlotte and Harry have babies of their own? Will Samantha survive cancer? Will Miranda survive suburbia?

It’s hard to tell how the tale will unfold, but one thing’s for sure: it’s bound to be fabulous.
